Lauriton to South West Rocks then on to Safety Beach

Packed up and left lovely Lauriton. First stop, with me having no say whatsoever, SS headed to Fredrickson, the home of Fredo's Pies voted amongst one of the 5 best pie shops in Australia with over 160 varieties of pies. We even took a crocodile and a camel pie to try tomorrow after feasting on chunky steak diane and a chunky beef stroganoff pie. They certainly didn't win this award by our vote but interesting just the same.

We arrived at Horseshoe Bay Caravan Park South West Rocks. What a top spot, we were over looking the mouth of the creek where it met the beach and it’s right in the middle of town. Once again we spotted some whales breaching and then watched a massive storm front move in.

Luckily we finished setting up before the storm hit. We then drove out to The Trial Bay Jail, which had been renovated since we last saw it 30-40 years ago. Theres’ a museum and short movie there now.
Jesus, how nobbly are my knees? That must be why they threw me in jail!!!

Unfortunately we lucked out with the weather for our few days here. No worries we still got in some fishing (no luck), walked the breakwall one morning and also took in a 3D Movie. Also found a great pub!

On Saturday morning still raining but luckily it stopped long enough to pack up and head up to Safety Beach ( just north of Woolgoolga), to stay with our long time mates Thornie and Sharon. It absolutely bucketed down as we drove through Coffs Harbour but 20 minutes later at Safety Beach it stopped again. The Gods are shining on us!

Next day we went to The Woopie Pub, ( that’s what the locals call Woolgoolga) for lunch. There was a “ Blues” muso playing called Lloyd Steigel. He was awesome, I even bought 2 of his CDs.

On Monday we went for a bike ride up to Grafton then all through the back blocks and on a road called Waterfall Way to Dorrigo. Once again beautiful scenery and waterfalls right next to the road.

The Old Dorrigo pub. One place we didn't try their beer.

Dorrigo is where all old trains go to die??!

We spent 4 days with the Thorns being totally spoilt with Sharon’s great cooking including SS favourite Beef Wellington and my favourite Chocolate cheese cake. Topped up with plenty of grog and partying. Now we’re a few kilos heavier, so looks like plenty more walks for us!
You'll never guess what this is! It's a pettern made by the sandcrabs. Isn't it cool??
