The Shipwreck Coast

This section of Victoria's coast from The Otways to Port Fairy has 630 known shipwrecks, hence the name.

Kilarney Beach
Our next camp site was on a sports field at Killarney Beach half way between Warrnambool and Port Fairy. Great value for only $46 for 3 nights with water, free hot showers and free laundry. Plus it was right next to the beach and very flat for long bike
rides and a bit of exploring.

We visited Port Fairy and weather wise it was one of the best days we'd had. It's a gorgeous port and fantastic for exploring by bike. We're enjoying this bicycling go so much it won't belong before you see Smally & me in Lycra! Hold that image !

This weekend is the Port Fairy Folk Festival and the town is buzzing, with an expected influx of 30,000 people and all the tickets were sold out last year. Bad luck we didn't know about it. The place will be packed out so we have to move stumps on Thursday.

We went for a boat ride out to the light house and around the beaches. Bit of a drama on board with the captain's dog trying to eat a passengers little lap dog. Holey doley a dog fight on a 20 foot boat caused a bit of mayhem, but it all calmed down soon enough. The captain was something else too, she was a 150kg female who was a real character. ( I really should have taken a photo of her) It was hilarious and at $10 for a half hour ride great value.
Gee what fake cheesy grins!

That night we also visited a light and laser show at Warrnambool called “The Shipwreck of The Loch Ard” which was fantastic and the next day we drove out to Kroit, an Irish Village in the middle of nowhere with a great old historical pub then on to Tower Hill which is an extinct volcano crater which is now called a game reserve. Fancy calling our native animals, game!

Next stop was Nelson a quiet little town where the Glenelg River meets the Southern Ocean.
It was very picturesque and we spent a couple of days trying our luck at fishing and  a bit of sight seeing.

Friday arvo we thought we'd have a few beers at the local pub and  meet the locals. We walked into this little pub and the place was packed, live music playing and we thought wow what a great pub.
Until, OMG, we found out we'd just gatecrashed a wake!! No worries  the locals were friendly and the beer was cold so all was good.

PS I don't no whats gone wrong with this blogs set out but I'm giving up trying to fix it!!!
