We've only travelled 25ks to our next stop 8 MILE CREEK but it's the best bush camp we've ever stayed at. It's not in Wiki Camps or any books we've seen , it has nothing in the way of amenities but we love it!
If we wanted to, we could have stayed right on the beach but as there's a on shore breeze blowing it's better 20 meters back behind some bushes for wind protection.
There's a pristine fresh water creek that's been filtered by limestone coming out right next to our walkway to the beach and so much bird life around including black swans right in the ocean. It's amazing!
We're only about 8 miles from Port McDonald so we took our bikes in and explored this gorgeous town. So much old world charm. I'ts the Southern Rock Lobster capital of Australia so naturally we picked up a couple for dinner.
Craziest water tower I've ever seen, right in the middle of town |
I know we're show offs!! But they were the tastiest, juciest lobsters ever. |
Next morning we tried to catch our own dinner. Here's the fearless fisherman braving the cold waters for a feed. No luck we had to have steak instead!
Next day off sight seeing to this car museum we'd heard about that's not widely advertised, it was the best private museum we'd come across. The owner was a Valient nut plus they had collections of everything you can think of including toys, washing machines, bikes, coka cola memorabila, jokes and even a cylindrical record which is one of the few left in the world.
The owner was a real character, both Don and his wife, Sheila were full of information and happy to share all their stories with us. Featsie as he's known is a retired cray fisherman with a great love of Valiants. He restored his first one when he was 27 and is now in his 70's I highly recommend if you're in this part of the world to visit them.
Feastie, the owner and me |
From there we went to Picanniny and Ewan Ponds which are incredibly clear in fact visibility can be up to 40 metres. They are so clear because they have been filtered through the limestone.
We went snorkling in Ewan Pond but the water was so cold I was lucky to stay in 5 seconds. Steve stayed in longer and shot these underwater shots.
I just had to include this photo, we have no idea what was in the building but there was no way we were going in!
The nights were just as magic as the days as were the sunsets.
Last day there we went for a ride along the beach and Smally the Lair just had to race through the creek. I've got a good movie of it but unfortunately I can't load it but the picture tells a pretty good story!
After he'd done this a few times I spotted this sign. Doh!!
