UFO'S, DEVILS AND THE TROPICS....

Giving the finger to  Alice Springs which truly won our hearts but broke our wallet! So many things went bung and had to be replaced like a new tyre, a new chain saw, car serviced etc...Only joking we loved Alice!

We then spent a few days exploring the East MacDonald Ranges, once again wonderful walks through gorges and amazing scenery

We have had enough of gorges and gaps though, bit of sensory overload, but we still loved our stop at Trephina gorge and exploring Attunga Historical mining town

This magnificent old gum tree is near the entrance to Trephina gorge. It's listed as the largest ghost gum in Australia measuring 33 metres tall and estimated to be over 300 years !
We finally cross The Tropic of Capricorn Yea!! now the hot weather sets in... even though we've had some beautiful days most nights have been very cold even getting down to 1-2 degrees!
First stop is at Aileron,  where the giant man stands atop a mountain. Very impressive ...

Also giant mother, child and goanna.
Now for our UFO sightings....Wycliffe Wells is Australia's UFO Capital so we decided to have a 2 night stop over. Very interesting but unfortunately no UFO sightings but we did see the Space Station go past!

This is one out there place. Who ever built it must have spent a motza, there was  a miniture steam train and track right around the park, 2 large dams, a restaurant with a large stage in a courtyard,a great big games room, indoor pool and  murals everywhere. It's such a shame previous owners have let this place run down. All that's available now is camp sites and petrol. I think the owners just want it for the petrol as they don't even mow the grass, wouldn't take much to spruce the place up... Even so we loved it.

We drove  20kms for a day trip to Karlu Karlu better known to us whities as Devil's Marbles. They are huge granite boulders, precariously placed &  scattered over a large valley, absolutely spectacular another place where I couldn't stop taking photos. Sorry we didn't see them at sunset.

On Friday 30th  June we took off for the weekend to Tennant Creek for Territory Day. Our first stop is to look at the historical Telegraph Station. I don't know how I did it but I could hardly walk around I pulled a muscle in my back luckily after some yoga stretches and a rest I was raring to go again.

During the morning we rode our bikes around town then in the arvo we rode out to Maryane Dam. It was a beautiful afternoon and a nice way to see the sites. Finally we're getting pretty bike fit.

That evening we went to the local park for entertainment and fireworks. What a great firework show they put on  but I just couldn't get any good shots.

We had a pretty good time in Tennant Creek but I wouldn't rush back there only other highlight was finally seeing my first Sturt Desert Pea blooming and the beautiful aboriginal mural

Originally we were going to turn right at Tennant Creek and head to Queensland and then home but we have now decided to go to Daly Waters and on to Mataranka before turning right.

Daly Waters Pub ... What an icon.... just had to stop for lunch and a good look around.

There is entertainment every night on this stage and evidently everyone goes off!!!
We've been without internet for ages now so as we are connected again I can catch up on my blog with this episode and another in a few days. We're having so many adventures and still 7 weeks to go!
