How to Stuff Up a Perfectly Good Weekend!

We were having a great weekend away until....... ( you'll have to read this blog to find that out!!!)

We took off on Friday morning on a long awaited motorbike trip to Buchan Caves which is in mid north Victoria. Riding on some of the best motorbike roads anywhere.

It was  overcast and touch chilly but after travelling through Cooma, Bombala and just past Delegate the beautiful scenery was bathed in sunlight and bright blue skies. Just what I call heaven!

We travelled through the Snowy Mountains National Park and it felt like we were going up, up, up,  you could see for ever, it was just spectacular.
We then went over  McKillops Bridge which crosses the Snowy River and about 50 ks further on we arrived at Buchan at about 3.3pm

The  cottage I booked was quaint and cosy , a typical bush cottage but with a nice view and cows mooing to finish off the scene. Beneath is the view from our cottage. Off to the pub for a few draughties, a friendly Scottish barmaid,  dinner and a bottle of red finished off our first day nicely.
Next day we went on another scenic ride to Orbost where we checked out a Gem gallery owned by a very interesting old couple who had dug up and polished most of the gems themselves.  Back to Buchan for the afternoon tour through Buchan Caves

I do love limestone caves, they are just magic.

Check this formation out it looks like jaws coming through the roof of the cave!

Sunday morning it's cold and sprinkling very lightly but Steve still wants to go home the way he'd planned. So up The Barry Way following the Snowy River then on to Jindabyne and home we head.
Once again magestic mountains scenery, we hardly pass a car this area is so remote with sheer drop offs and gorges down to the river.

I get to thinking if we come off here no-one will even find our bodies- Chilling thought-

This is our last happy snap before our weekend turns to shit. But isn't it a beauty!
Remote but beautiful.

Now we're doing the same thing as we've been doing all weekend  down a road approaching a corner and SHIT no brakes! Travelling at 80kms an hour and NO BACK BRAKES!! Theres no getting out of this one. So Steve takes the direction of least resistance, not the four metal poles holding the 2 black and white arrow signs, not that big bloody tree but straight through the signs down an embankment, I fly over  Steves head and over the barbwired fence and over a boulder AHHHHH!! Steve keeps with the bike into the barbwired fence and is stopped by the boulder. Can you believe it we get straight up and can't believe we're both okay. I think these photos tell a better storey.

This is the sign we took out & luckily missed that bloody big tree!

After this DRAMA we thought we'd wait for a car to pass. No cars at all came our way so Steve had seen some old cow cockies loading a up a semi with steers 2 ks back so off we head to our saviours who took us into Jindabyne in the Kenworth with 40 tonnes of cattle in the back . Whooee, now that's a first for me, a ride in a semi.

We're now home safe and sound a little bruised but thank God for whoever was looking after us!
We have found out today the reason why there was no brakes was that a small nut holding the brake line into the caliper had come loose slowly bleeding off the brake fluid. NOT HAPPY YAMAHA!!!
