Westward Ho!!!

29th November 2010

We left for Tenterfield about 10am after restocking our food supply. We can tell we're back in NSW by the state of the roads. Stayed at the top caravan park and checked out the Rail Museum, it was actually very interesting.

Awoke to an overcast and drizzling morning so after trying to explore by bike we decided to sook it and go in the comfort of our car. Up to Boonoo Boonoo Falls which had tons of water falling down two big cliffs with deep swimming holes. I wish it was sunny!!!

On the way to the falls we checked out Thunderbolt's ( the bushranger's) hideout. It was unreal, massive granite boulders making caves with different get aways.

This is where Thunderbolt slept
Then on to Bald Rock N.P. where there is the largest granite rock, above ground, in Australia. It's 750m long, rising to 250m high. Just like a mini Ayres Rock! It was too high for us oldies to climb, especially being wet and slippery but awesome looking straight up it.

Back at the camp we had happy hour ( or 2) with some friendly neighbours but the weather put an end to that as it absolutely bucketed down.

Wednesday, 1/12 we now have 2 weeks left of our holiday, so rain or no rain we're making the most of it.
It's wet and foggy as we take off to Bingara via Glen Innes. At Glen Innes we saw the Celtic Standing Stones, modelled somewhat on Stone Henge.

MY EXCALIBUR!!
As we drive through the rain and mist we see some fantastic countryside, acres and acres of golden wheat and fields of green. Unfortunately the farmers can't harvest this wealth of wheat due to the rain.
I have no pictures of the pastures but the skies were unreal.

We arrive at Bingara and find the most wonderful campsite that our friends from last night told us about. It's 7kms out of town, turn right just after the bridge and look for the fish sign. As luck would have it we decide not to stay as it's pouring rain, we're surrounded by storm fronts and the last camp site left is only about 300mm above the waterline. We were scared that we would get flooded during the night but we will definately be back.

So off to Moree which is another 100kms on, arriving about 5.30pm. The Caravan Park is great with 5 thermal pools ranging in temperature from 25, 35, 36, 37 and 39 degrees! The water is piped from 2,500 feet below the ground.. They are fantastic so we stayed an extra day to enjoy them and also for me to go to the hairdressers to get rid of the grey hair. I now look gorgeous again!

Last night in Moree we decide to go out for dinner at the local Thai restaurant. Hooley Dooley what a surprise!! It must be the best Thai we have ever had. We chatted to the waitress and she told us it was her 26 year old husband who used to work in Darling Harbour. It was fantastic so if you're ever in Moree go to the Thub Thim Thai in Frome Street, you won't be disappointed.

Tomorrow we head even further west to Nindigully then on to Lightning Ridge.
